Suffolk Police said the 30-year-old victim was found on the ground next to a deli in Copiague, Barcellona Place, at around 7.40pm on Monday, May 15.

The man, Jose Argueta-Canales of Copiague, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect, Gherson Lopez, was arrested on Wednesday, May 17 at approximately 7:00 p.m. following an investigation by detectives from the Suffolk County Police Department’s Homicide Squad.

Lopez, 28, of Copiag, was charged with second-degree murder.

He was held overnight at Suffolk Police Station No. 3 and is scheduled to appear at First Local Court, Central Islip, on Thursday, May 18.
