The Jolly Fisherman & Steakhouse at 25 Rosyln Street announced via a Facebook post on Tuesday, May 16 that the restaurant will be closing at the end of June. Founded in 1957 and passed down through generations by the Scheiner family, the restaurant has been serving Roslyn diners fresh seafood for decades.

“It was a good run. We decided it was time to say goodbye,” the post read.

With over 150 comments on the original post and an overall rating of 4.5 stars on Yelp, it seems The Happy Fisherman has left its mark on the community and the people.

“My grandmother and my family have loved going over the years,” Jennifer L. Alway wrote in a Facebook announcement. “This will be a loss and you will be missed.”

Many others joined in with their recollections of the restaurant, such as reviewer Lee Stoller Winder.

“I was born the same year you opened. My family celebrated my (now 73) brother’s 21st birthday there,” Winder wrote. “My mom, now 97, loves the window seat!!! You will be missed – yet another beautiful tradition lost.”

Jolly Fisherman (in addition to a huge selection of salads, soups and sides) serves a variety of different finfish, shellfish, lobster and steaks, and many Yelp reviewers say the seafood is fresh and delicious.

“Absolutely delicious with macadamia nut salmon!!!!” said Isabel S., a reviewer in New York. “Around a great meal…did I tell you how great macadamia salmon is?! You’re going to love it!

Jolly Fisherman’s last day of operation will be Sunday, June 25th.

In the meantime, owners Lori and Steven Scheiner thank the community, staff and the Village of Roslyn for their support of the restaurant throughout its 66 years of existence.

“We hope you will miss us when we are gone,” Scheiners wrote.

“We know we’ll miss you.”
