Just after 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, Joseph Mathews, 49, of Deer Park, was arrested and charged with four counts of stalking, a second-degree felony.

Suffolk Police said four women had contacted police separately saying they had received inappropriate sexual calls and messages from an unidentified man dating back to April 2020.

Following an investigation, officers from Suffolk Police’s Fifth Precinct Crime Unit said they determined Matthews had been looking for women through online pages of local businesses and communities, and had found their contact information on the internet.

“Over a three-year period, he called the four women hundreds of times and sent numerous messages, the majority of which were sexual,” Suffolk Police said.

Officers from the 5th Precinct’s Crime Unit executed a search warrant at Matthews’ home.

Matthews spent the night at Fifth Precinct and will appear at First Local Court in Central Islip on Wednesday, May 17.

Police are asking anyone who may have been a victim of Mathews to contact the Fifth Precinct Crime Unit at 631-854-8526.
