The incident took place on Monday, May 15th at 11:30pm.
Nassau County Police reported that two male teenagers, a 19-year-old and an 18-year-old, were sailing on Center Island in Oyster Bay Harbor on a 25-foot sailboat.
Shortly after setting sail, the 19-year-old fell into the water, police said.
Unable to see his friend on the boat, the 18-year-old called a friend on shore.
Friends on shore joined two other people in a boat to find the 18-year-old but were also unable to locate the 19-year-old in the water.
Multiple agencies have begun searching for the teen, including the Nassau County Police Maritime Department, emergency services and the Department of Aviation.
Additionally, the U.S. Coast Guard, NYPD Aviation, Oyster Bay Police Department, Bayville Fire Department and Oyster Bay Fire Department are assisting in the search.
Investigation is ongoing.
