The incident happened on Wednesday, March 22, according to the Suffolk Police Hate Crime Unit.

According to officials, the group, consisting of four women and two men, entered the Vajiradhammapadip Temple at 110 Village Road, Centereach around noon.

Two women and a man entered the residence, and the others entered the shrine.

A resident of the residential area confronted the intruder, and all six fled the temple, waiting in a gray minivan driven by a man.

Police said the minivan may have been a Honda Odyssey, but it was unclear in which direction the suspect fled.

Suffolk Crime Stoppers has offered a cash reward to anyone who can provide information leading to an arrest.
