Katlyn Pineda of Queens was found unresponsive and unconscious in the swimming pool at the Melville Marriott in Suffolk County on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, Suffolk County Police said State until she passed away from her injuries on Monday, May 1.

Pineda’s mother, Erica Baez, was arrested in Manhattan at 7:45 p.m. on Monday, May 15 following an investigation by detectives from the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad.

On the day of the incident, Baez left her daughter alone in the pool unattended, according to police.

Baez, 41, of the Bronx, was charged with manslaughter and two counts of wounding a child.

She was held overnight and is due to be arraigned at Central Islip First Local Court on Tuesday, May 16.
