Margaret Dowie Jellett, a longtime Southold resident, passed away on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Brookhaven Nursing Home. She is 93 years old.

Margaret was born April 2, 1930, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, to Margaret (Donovan) and James Doy. She is one of two children. She graduated from Laurelton High School in the Class of 1948. After high school, she attended Mount St. Vincent College, graduating in the class of 1952 with a Bachelor of Nursing degree.

In July 1965, she married Peter Geralt in Stratford, Connecticut. Together they have two children and will make their home in Southold.

Margaret was a nurse at Bridgeport Hospital for 13 years. After marriage, she worked with her husband in their small business, The Jellett Studio, repairing fine china and figurines. She was active in the PTA and Boy and Girl Scouts when her children were young and was a troop leader for many years. She is also a member of St Patrick RC Church in Southold.

Margaret’s husband, Peter, died first, and her children, Andrew Gerrett (Gretchen) of Calverton, New York, and Lisa Gerrett (Walter Risse) of Cranford, New Jersey. grandchildren Jackson Risse, Elise Risse, and James McAtee; and her brother, Thomas Dowie of Clinton, Connecticut.

The family hosted visitors at the DeFriest-Grattan Funeral Home in Southold on May 11. A Christian funeral service was held at St Patrick RC Church in Southold on May 12, officiated by the Reverend John Barrett. He was subsequently buried at Calverton National Cemetery.
