Albert Garfield, 57, of Island Park was arrested Sunday, May 14 and faces multiple charges, including grand larceny, according to Nassau County police.

Around 8:50 p.m., officials say Garfield illegally entered a fenced-in property at 531 Roosevelt Nassau Road.

He then reportedly got into an International Harvester Landscape Truck and started the engine.

According to police, Garfield drove through the locked fence and fled south on Nassau Road.

That same night, in Island Park, about 8 miles away, Garfield was involved in an accident in a stolen truck.

Although he fled the scene, the police quickly located and arrested him.

Prior to this incident, Garfield had been arrested four times on charges including assault, DUI and robbery, according to authorities.

For the incident, he was accused of:

  • grand theft;
  • trespass;
  • Unlawful possession of stolen property; and
  • Leave the scene of the incident.

Garfield is due to appear in Hempstead 1st District Court on Monday, May 15.
