Suffolk Police said the 30-year-old victim was found on the ground next to a deli in Copiague, Barcellona Place, at about 7.40pm on Monday, May 15.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
He is now identified as Jose Argueta-Canales from Copiague,
An autopsy will be carried out by staff from the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office.
