According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, Daniel Mullan, 83, of El Monte, was sentenced to 30 years in prison, the maximum sentence under criminal statutes in force at the time of Mulan’s crimes.

Mullan was convicted of possessing substantial amounts of child pornography between 2014 and 2017, according to court documents.

A search warrant for Mullan’s home in El Monte and a storage room he rented found hundreds of images and videos of child sexual abuse, including videos depicting Mullan having sex with teenage boys.

Investigators found videos and images dating back to the early 1980s.

An FBI investigation also found that between 1999 and 2006, Mullan traveled domestically and internationally with a minor and documented his sexual abuse of the minor.

Investigators later found a safe containing more than $300,000 in cash that was supposed to be used as hush money for another victim.

U.S. Attorney Brian Pease said the sentence “is a just punishment for years of heinous crimes against minors and sends a message to all who seek to harm innocent children.”

Mullan was extradited from Ireland, which holds dual US-Irish citizenship, in August 2019.
