Naheem A. Scafe, 31, of Amityville, was charged with one count of cruelty to animals, the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals announced Monday, May 15.

Officers from the SPCA allegedly responded to Babylon Animal Shelter, where they saw Dollar, a 5-year-old pit bull.

Very emaciated and neglected, Dollar was taken to a shelter by Animal Control, covered in urine, dirt and filth.

During an inspection, officials found Doral had sores on his tongue, urine scorching his scrotum and inflamed and swollen legs due to neglect of hygiene.

Scafe is due to appear in First District Court on Wednesday, May 31.

Officials urge the community to contact the Suffolk County SPCA at (631) 382-7722 to report any incidents of animal cruelty or neglect.
