Busts are held at Garden City Park and Mineola in Nassau County on Wednesday, May 10.

The illegal gaming devices were identified as part of a special operation called Operation Pop and Stop in conjunction with the Nassau County Fire Department, the Town of North Hempstead Building Department, the State Liquor Authority and the Town of Mineola Building Department Supervisor Discovered, the target was illegal gambling equipment used in various businesses.

Police said the following agencies possessed the devices:

  • Port Café – 2132 Jericho Turnpike, Garden City Park. A total of three gaming machines and cash were seized. Jose Araujo, 60, was arrested safely.
  • Madeira Sports Café – 247 Mineola Blvd, Mineola. A total of eight gaming machines were seized along with cash. Domingos Martins, 61, was arrested safely.

Both were charged with possession of gambling equipment and disorderly conduct/gambling at the scene.

They were each given a ticket to return to Hempstead Court on Wednesday, May 24.

Additionally, both defendants were convicted of multiple violations by the Nassau County Fire Marshal and the New York State Liquor Department.
