Nassau County resident Robert Ardoin, 45, of Uniondale, was arrested Tuesday, May 9 at the Bloomingdale store in East Garden City, Roosevelt Field Mall.

According to Nassau County detectives, officers and store security responded to an alert from Bloomingdale’s, who found the Ardoin in the store hours later after tampering with the cash register.

Ardoin refused multiple verbal orders while holding a metal crowbar above his head. Officers had to use electronic control devices to successfully get officers to take him into custody, police said.

Ardoin was taken to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation.

An investigation determined that Ardoin also damaged 15 cash registers and took more than $3,000 in the incident, police said.

Further investigation linked Ardoin to two other burglaries at Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s at 630 Old Country Road, police added.

He is accused of:

  • Third degree burglary
  • Theft Level 2
  • Two counts of menacing police
  • Two counts of criminal mischief
  • illegal possession of weapons
  • Possess anti-theft tools.

He will be arraigned in Hempstead on Thursday, May 11.
