The incident occurred on Tuesday, May 9 at around 4:33pm in Inwood

Nassau County Police responded to a suspected robbery at the Lawrence Station Deli at 15 Bayview Avenue.

There, police were told that the three suspects followed the two boys in and out of the deli.

According to authorities, the main instigator appeared to be 19-year-old Christian Leiva-Aguilar of Inwood, who allegedly began harassing the children, demanding money, chasing them and brandishing a box knife.

Leiva-Aguilar then took a backpack from one of the children and the robbers fled the scene in a 2009 Nissan Rogue, police said.

Police located the car and the three shortly after and arrested all without incident.

Leiva-Aguilar was previously arrested in April 2023 for the kidnapping and assault of a woman. In that case, which is still pending in court, he allegedly punched and kicked the abducted woman and hit her with a pipe.

The other two defendants in the robbery were:

  • Javier Sirmeno, 20, of Inwood; and
  • Kevin Cifuentes Quiej, 21, of Far Rockaway.

All three were charged with:

  • First degree robbery, two counts
  • Endangering the welfare of a child, two counts

Additionally, Leiva-Aguilar was charged with second-degree threats and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon, the police report said.

The trio will appear in the First District Court on Wednesday, May 10.
