Mount Sinai High School alumnus Joey Spallina was named lacrosse ACC Freshman of the Year in a vote by conference head coaches Tuesday.

Syracuse’s rookie sensation, whose father coach joe The well-regarded Stony Brook women’s lacrosse team led the Orange with 68 points, including 36 goals and 32 assists. Spallina also received a USA Lacrosse Magazine All-American Honor Award.

During the season, the attacker was named ACC Offensive Player of the Week twice, Lacrosse Network Player of the Week twice and USILA Team of the Week once.

He played five seasons on the offensive team at Mount Sinai High School, earning county honors each season and setting a Long Island career record 501 points. He helped lead Mount Sinai to the 2021 Long Island Championship and the 2022 County Championship. Spallina is a two-time Long Island player of the year.

Syracuse is 8-7 on the season.

Last week, Spallina was named Male Newcomer of the Year at Syracuse’s annual Cuse Student-Athlete Awards.
