After a young man was shot dead in New Kassel, the community came together to help his family celebrate the life he had lived.

Gurran Williams, nicknamed “Q” by his loved ones, suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the shooting at around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, May 7.

In a description of a GoFundMe started for his family, writer Yolaine Riche remembers Quran as a young man with a “promising future.”

“He likes to show off his engineering skills because he loves building things and he has great hands. Q also loves his family very much and spends time with the people he loves.”

In the first 24 hours of the fundraiser, donors have donated more than $4,000 of the $20,000 goal.

The donation will go directly to Williams’ family, which Riche hopes will help fund a celebration of the young man’s life and a memorial service after his sudden death left his family in need.

“Sadly, like so many other young black men, his life was cut short, robbing him of the opportunity to reach his full potential and realize his dreams,” Rich wrote.

“His family is heartbroken and their lives changed forever.”
