He is believed to be driving a 2022 Hyundai at Mastic Beach on northbound Mastic Road just north of Blanco Boulevard at around 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, May 9.
According to police, the car crossed the southbound lanes, hit the curb, and then hit a tree and a utility pole.
The man, identified as Brian Baker, 43, of Moriches, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Mastic Beach Ambulance paramedic.
A 16-year-old female passenger in the car suffered minor injuries and was released at the scene under the supervision of her family, police said.
