Marie Louise Pizzarelli of Greenport passed away on May 8, 2023 at Stony Brook University Hospital. She is 86 years old. Ms. Pizzarelli has lived in Peconic Landing for 15 years.

She was born April 4, 1937 in Rosedale, New York, the daughter of Joseph and Ana de Onfrio Giorcia. She attended Mount St. Mary’s College for a year before marrying Peter D. Pizzarelli on June 30, 1956, in Garden City. Peter and Marie lived in the Head of the Harbor for many years while raising their four children. In 1980, they moved full-time to Peconic Beach, where they lived many wonderful years until Peter’s death in 1996. Their home is a frequent hangout for friends and family—often hosting clam bakes, Fourth of July parties, and other celebrations.

Mary enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, playing cards, mahjong and bingo. She also enjoys participating in theater productions at Peconic Landing and volunteering at the Opportunity Store in Greenport. She will be remembered for her quiet and thoughtful friendship and love for all.

She died before her husband, Peter; her parents; and her brother, Victor Giorcia.

She is survived by her children and their families: Linda Pizzarelli-Hillman (Mitchell Hillman), daughter of Carle Place; Peter Pizzarelli Jr. of Charleston, South Carolina; daughter Donna Forsberg and her children Mathew (Meredith) Forsberg, Thomas Forsberg and Christopher Forsberg, both of Cold Spring Harbor; and son Joseph (Elaine) Pizzarelli and their children Christian and Huntley Pizzarelli, both of Darien, Connecticut.

The family will host visitors at the Horton-Mathie Funeral Home in Greenport on Thursday, May 11, from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Agnes RC Church in Greenport on Friday, May 12 at 11am, with Father Frank Pizzarelli presiding. Funeral services will be held at Calverton National Cemetery.

Souvenirs may be donated to Hope House Ministries in Port Jefferson.
