John Vano, 50, of Merrick, was arrested Sunday, May 7 after an argument with a colleague turned violent, authorities said.
Detectives say Vano and his 42-year-old male colleague got into an altercation at La Piazza at 2191 Merrick Road on Saturday, May 6 at approximately 8:15 p.m.
The fight escalated and Vano allegedly started hitting his colleague over the head with a large pizza peel, tearing the victim’s head open.
Vano then fled the scene before officers arrived, but turned himself in safely the next day, police said.
Vano is responsible for:
- secondary attack
- Level 4 illegal possession of a weapon
He is scheduled to appear in First District Court on Monday, May 8.
