Long Islanders Say: Maria’s Mexican & Latin Cuisine at 211 Smithtown Boulevard in Nesconset is the best Mexican restaurant on the island, according to 2023 Bethpage Best of Long Island result.
Winner of Best Restaurant in Latin America eight years in a row, Maria’s is no stranger to being recognized for its “amazing” food and atmosphere.
“Maria’s Mexican and Latin American cuisine grew out of a lifelong passion for Latin American culture and cuisine,” the restaurant’s website states.
Its menu is “for refined palates”, using “mouthwatering fresh, locally sourced produce and delicious fresh meats and seafood”.
Maria’s offers a variety of food and beverage options, including gluten-free options, soups, salads and traditional Mexican specialties, so there’s something for everyone in the newly renovated space.
“Great, fresh food. Delicious sangria,” wrote Joanne B. of Ronkonkoma. “We were a party of 12 and everyone ordered something different and everyone was very happy with their choices.”
Eric M. of Nesconset wrote on Yelp that while the restaurant has been around for a long time, he didn’t eat there until recently when he “realized what I was missing.”
“The service…was excellent,” he wrote. “Staff were friendly, attentive and accurate with our orders. Food was great.”
Disappointingly, Eric M. has a margarita that he claims is “comparable to top margaritas from other restaurants and comes in a generous portion.”
Every Thursday, Maria’s hosts Music and Margarita Night, inviting diners to enjoy cocktails and live music. In addition, the restaurant offers weekend and seasonal specials so diners can always try something new.
“We love the outdoor seating area and the weekly specials,” says Dee B. of Nesonset. “I love their lechon cubano and sweet plantains. Always delicious!”
