“The Town of Oyster Bay has received nearly $500,000 in state grant funding to expand our electric vehicle charging infrastructure,” said Superintendent Saladino.

In celebration of Earth Day, Superintendent Joseph Saladino and City Councilman Steve Labriola announced that New York State has awarded more than $490,000 in grants to the Town of Oyster Bay to expand the town’s electric vehicle charging stations. The largest grant ever allocated to a single town in the state, the award recognizes the Town of Oyster Bay’s tremendous commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability.

“The Town of Oyster Bay has received nearly $500,000 in state grant funding to expand our electric vehicle charging infrastructure,” said Superintendent Saladino. “The town has installed multiple electric vehicle charging stations as we recognize the great need in our community for environmentally friendly transportation alternatives, and we thank New York State for giving us the opportunity to continue these sustainable efforts at no additional cost to taxpayers .”

The funding is part of the Department of Environmental Protection’s Municipal Zero Emissions Vehicle Infrastructure Grant Program. It will allow the Town of Oyster Bay to install 22 Level 2 charging ports and a DCFC dock for public use as demand for electric vehicles continues to grow each year.

“Thanks to state grant funds, we will expand electric vehicle charging stations across town without using property taxes. From cheaper vehicle maintenance to zero-emissions and environmentally friendly production, supporting electric vehicles can bring many community benefits. We Thank you New York State for recognizing our previous efforts to provide electric vehicle stations and awarding us these grant funds,” added Assemblyman Steve Labriola.

In 2019 Councilor Labriola led a quality of life initiative to install and operate electric vehicle charging stations in town for public use. Since then, the town has surveyed properties and the public to determine the best location for the installation. Recently, an electric vehicle charging station was built on the western waterfront of Oyster Bay.
