Nassau County Police said the fire started around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 29 in a detached garage at a residence at 96 Albemarle Ave. in Hempstead.
Hempstead Fire Station responded and extinguished the blaze.
A man was located at the scene and pronounced dead, police said.
Neither his age nor his identity was immediately released.
Homicide and Arson/Bomb Squad detectives responded to the location.
Investigation is ongoing.
