East Northport’s Damien Caffrey, who was signed by the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent after the 2023 NFL draft on Saturday, has had a good run of late. Twitter.

Caffrey spent his first three years of college at Long Island University before transferring to Stony Brook, where he became a star player. Caffrey had an impressive senior season at John Glenn High School with 24 catches for 450 yards and six touchdowns.

While the Bears already signed veteran Robert Tonian to a one-year deal this offseason, Caffrey was the team’s only rookie signing this draft season.

The Long Island native will compete for the bench spot with Chase Allen and Jake Tongers, both of whom played on the team’s practice squad last season, as they battle to become the three active players that NFL rosters typically contain. One of the tight ends.
