The incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 29 in Massapequa.
Suffolk County resident Rene Velasquez Guevara, 52, of Medford, was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler heading south on Hicksville Road when he collided with the cruiser heading north on Hicksville Road near the Sunrise Highway.
Nassau County police said Guevara was not injured.
One officer sustained head and neck injuries in the crash, according to police. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and then released.
Guevara was accused of:
- schizophrenia,
- tier three attack,
- reckless inflicting bodily harm,
- traffic violation.
He will be arraigned at Hempstead 1st District Court on Monday, April 30.
