The company announced a voluntary nationwide recall of 2-pound, 5-pound and 10-pound bags of Gold Medal Unbleached and Bleached All-Purpose Flour on Friday, April 28, “best used by March 27, 2024 and before March 2024.” 28 February.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said the recall was due to the possible presence of Salmonella infantis found in a sampling of the 5-pound bags of the product.

All other types of Gold Medal flour are not affected by this recall.

Consumers are asked to check their pantry and dispose of products affected by this recall.

Consumers who have to discard this recalled product can contact General Mills Consumer Relations at 1-800-230-8103.

Guidelines from the FDA and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) warn that consumers should avoid any raw products made with flour.

Salmonella infantis is killed by heat by baking, frying, sautéing or boiling products made from flour. Properly clean all surfaces, hands and utensils after touching flour or dough.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella infantis, a type of bacteria, usually experience nausea, diarrhea, fever, and abdominal pain.

The CDC estimates there are 1.2 million cases in the United States each year.

Typically, symptoms appear within 6 hours to 6 days of infection and last 4 to 7 days.
