After years of renovations and unforeseen delays, West Babylon Cinemas is getting new life.


After years of construction, South Bay Cinemas is finally showing movies again, with the fully renovated theater reopening in May. Restoring the five-screen theater at 495 Montauk Highway in West Babylon has been a long journey, but the new owners hope to start showing movies again next month.


A facebook post Older theater fans are reminded on the South Bay Cinemas page that they will announce staff interviews approximately 4-6 weeks before opening.


They also answered several frequently asked questions about the new movie theater. They’ll be doing online ticket sales and hosting birthday parties and theater rentals when they’re ready.


According to cinematreasures.org, the original South Bay Cinema opened in 1967 with a single screen, showing El Dorado starring John Wayne. The theater became a trio in 1975, and by 1991 it had five screens.


In 2016 it was closed for refurbishment.


The owners said tickets cost $10 or $11 for regular adults and $6 for seniors, Newsday reported.
