He ranks third on the team in RBI, third in runs, fourth in hits and second in walks.

Sayville High School product Brock Murtha is doing it all for Navy baseball this spring. The Midshipmen’s starting third baseman pitched evenly, posting a very tidy 2.08 ERA in four appearances off the bench.

Murtha, a five-year varsity player and county champion while at Sayville, is in his first season in the Navy after transferring from Notre Dame. Over the course of two seasons, he saw limited action for the Fighting Irish, only expending one season of eligibility.

Mursa hit . 275 (20-22) for Navy this spring with two homers and 23 RBIs. He completed 19 walks and scored 23 points.Navy leads 12-10 with six games left in schedule patriot league Meeting. They are likely to play in the divisional playoffs starting May 13.

In 2019, as a high school junior, Murtha pitched a no-hitter in Xavier’s Long Island Tournament win over Clark. It was Sayville’s first Long Island title. The West Seville native also led Long Island with 10 homers that season.

During his senior season on the Sayville football team, Brock started both offense and defense, earning long island daily news honor while helping lead the Golden Flashes to the Suffolk County Division 3 football championship.

Murtha’s younger brother, Macklin, played football at the University of Rhode Island.
