Anthony J. Fiore to Lead Broad Portfolio of Clean Energy Projects in Support of New York State’s Nationally Leading Climate Act Goals


The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) announced today that Anthony J. Fiore was named Chief Programs Officer at the January Board of Directors meeting. As part of NYSERDA’s executive leadership team, Mr. Fiore will lead and oversee a broad portfolio of clean energy programs in support of New York State’s state-leading goals under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (the Climate Act).

As Chief Programs Officer, Mr. Fiore will oversee programs and operations that support an annual budget of approximately $1.5 billion and direct NYSERDA’s key business units, including Clean and Resilient Buildings, Renewable Energy (Distributed and Large-Scale), Clean Transportation, Innovation , Community/Partnerships, Operations, and NY Green Bank – a total of more than 300 professionals responsible for NYSERDA’s programs and operational achievements. In addition, he will lead NYSERDA’s cross-team, cross-sector program strategy, utilizing program and market assessments to optimize program investments to achieve market size for greenhouse gas reduction and clean energy technologies and services.

Mr. Fiore has 24 years of government experience in various fields. Most recently, Mr. Fiore served as Chief Decarbonization Officer for New York City. In this role, Mr. Fiore is responsible for the overall management of carbon emissions from government operations and oversees competitive grants related to energy efficiency, innovative technology development, distributed clean energy generation, large-scale renewable energy development, energy supply contracting and workforce plan development.

Mr. Fiore recognized the importance of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) to maintaining a healthy and resilient organization and established a DEI Committee within his team at the City’s Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) to ensure The structure, growth and development of the department’s team and investments reflect the population served. He was recently recognized by DCAS for his contributions to DEI.

Prior to serving as Chief Decarbonization Officer, Mr. Fiore served as New York City Director of Energy Regulatory Affairs, served as the City’s leading energy policy advocate at numerous local, state and federal agencies, and provided extensive analysis on energy-related regulatory and legislative matters . Mr. Fiore also has extensive knowledge in water quality, environmental health and safety, engineering and operations, and tax business restructuring.

Mr. Fiore previously served on several energy-related boards and committees, including the New York City Building Sustainability Council, the New York City Carbon Neutral Pathway Technical Advisory Committee, the Northeast Deep Decarbonization Pathway Advisory Committee, and the New York Smart Grid Alliance Council.

Mr. Fiore received his BS in Biological Sciences from Binghamton University and his MS in Public Health with a concentration in Environmental Health Sciences from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health. Mr. Fiore has also conducted research in evolutionary ecology at Binghamton University and the University of Michigan.
