Nassau County Legislature Kevan M. Abrahams honors the founders of Helping Hands in Hempstead.


(MINEOLA and HEMPSTEAD, NY) – During the recent Nassau County Legislative Session, Nassau County Legislator Kevan M. Abrahams (D – Freeport) was honored Jeffrey and Cheyenne Spencerfounder Helping Hands of Hempstead, for their unwavering commitment to giving back to the community.


The father-daughter duo and lifelong Hempstead residents started hosting events with their own money about eight years ago, including a safe Halloween party for children, a sit-down Thanksgiving dinner, and holiday fire giveaways to families in need Chicken and more. For Hempstead Fire Department Firefighter Jeffrey and Ophthalmic Technician Cheyenne, it was the beginning of Helping Hands, which has grown into numerous events held throughout the year, including an annual Christmas toy giveaway and an event for hundreds of community members Hosted dinner party.




On Monday, February 27, during the Legislature’s annual Black History Month celebration, Legislator Abraham presented Jeffrey and Cheyenne with the Nassau County Legislature Citation for their impressive efforts.


“During Black History Month, it’s important to celebrate the individuals who have succeeded not just last year, but time and time again,” said Legislator Abrahams. “Through their philanthropic mission, Jeffrey and Cheyenne Spencer have done a lot to spread joy , a pleasure to know them in the Legislature and thank them for all they do to make life better for so many deserving families in our community.”
