According to Suffolk Police, officers conducted compliance checks at seven tobacco shops in Suffolk on Wednesday 26 April after receiving a large number of complaints from the community.

Of the seven businesses inspected, four were found to be selling marijuana products to minors, police said.

One of those businesses, Nirvana Smoke Shop in Huntington, has been cited four times since January 2023.

A second company, Gotham Smoke in Huntington, was cited in January 2022.

The four arrested employees were charged with unlawful handling of children and unlawful sale of marijuana, both misdemeanors.

Police identified them as:

  • Nader Ilyas, 27, of Dix Hills; employee of Nirvana Electronic Cigarette Store On the East Jericho Turnpike in Huntington
  • Fazal Khan, 44, of Brooklyn; employee of huntington tobacco shop On the East Jericho Turnpike at Huntington Station
  • Umar Majeed, 40, of Brooklyn; employee of Venom Smoke Shop On the East Jericho Turnpike at Huntington Station
  • Gerard Turnier, 26, of Huntington Station; employee of gotham smoke On the East Jericho Turnpike in Huntington

All four are scheduled to appear at the First Local Court in Central Islip at a later date.

Three other businesses were found to be in compliance, according to police.
