“The Asharoken Seawall has needed serious repairs for decades and I was grateful to be able to raise this issue with my colleagues in Washington,” said LaLota.

Last week, Rep. Nick LaLota (R-Suffolk County) highlighted the Asharoken Seawall at a hearing for the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee regarding the Water Resources Development Act.

“The Asharoken Seawall has needed serious repairs for decades and I was grateful to be able to raise this issue with my colleagues in Washington. The Eaton’s Neck and Asharoken communities rely on the seawall to help connect them to Huntington and Long Island as a whole,” said LaLota. “Last year, Asharoken Village Mayor Greg Letica gave me a tour of the seawall so I could see the damage and hear how it has impacted the community. I look forward to further working with the Village and the Army Corps to find a reasonable solution to this pressing issue.”

Background:

The Water Resources Development Act is a comprehensive legislative package that provides for the conservation and development of water and related resources. It authorizes the Secretary of the Army, through the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works, to conduct studies, construct projects, and research activities that can lead to the improvement of rivers and harbors of the United States. The bill is traditionally passed every two years to authorize the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ activities for flood control, navigation, and ecosystem restoration.
