On Sunday, July 16 at around 11:10 a.m., Suffolk County Police Department 3rd Precinct officers were on the eastbound Sunrise Freeway (Route 27) in Islip near Carlton Avenue There was traffic control on the highway (Route 27) when a commercial van crashed into the passenger side.police car

The officer was airlifted by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

The van’s driver, Lawrence, 62, was taken to South Shore University Hospital on the Gulf Coast as a precaution.
