“Reviving the Shinnecock Language is a fantastic effort, and I’m delighted to see Guild Hall receive this funding to help cover costs,” Lalotta said.
Rep. Nick LaLota (NY-01) announced a grant of $50,000 to East Hampton’s Guild Hall for the first literary project of its artist-in-residence.
“Reviving the Shinnecock Language is a fantastic effort, and I’m delighted to see Guild Hall receive this funding to help cover costs,” Lalotta said. “In Congress, I will always fight for more federal funding for Suffolk County. Doing so makes Suffolk County a better, more affordable place to live, work and raise a family.”

Guild House First Literary Project is working to revive the Shinnecock language. The first literary project aims to use immersive 3D, virtual reality and holographic technologies to create two immersive lectures, which will be exhibited in the Guild Hall in Spring 2024 to support the preservation of Indigenous stories, cultures and languages.
Additionally, another component of the project will include a compilation of all materials used to aid in the study of the Shinnecock language to create a centralized database to aid in future research, and a video archive of the Padoquohan Medicine Lodge to document interviews with the Shinnecock tribe member. Guild Hall has received a grant from the Library of Congress to support the founding and work of Ayím Kutoowonk (She Said), a community-based language revival group.
